WANTED: DIRTY CARS FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH
Green Mountain Coffee Hosts Free Car Wash for Grounds for Health in Waterbury

WATERBURY, VT (July 30, 2009) – Green Mountain Coffee is holding its third annual car wash to raise funds and awareness for Grounds for Health, an international nonprofit based in Waterbury that provides vital cancer screening and treatment for women in coffee-growing communities. The event will be held on August 13, 2009 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Green Mountain Coffee Visitor Center and Café at the Waterbury Train Station. The rain date is on August 14th at the same time and location.

“We’re excited to continue our support of Grounds for Health,” says Michael Dupee, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. “Each year has been better than the last – more cars, more prizes, and more awareness for Grounds for Health. We’re looking forward to a car wash to remember.”

The car wash fundraiser will be hosted by Green Mountain Coffee in partnership with Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc., Comfort Colors, Aurum Organic, and Gigi’s Cleaning. Garbed in carbon-neutral t-shirts donated by Comfort Colors and Aurum Organic, local volunteers, dubbed the “Clean Team,” will be ready to lather, scrub, and hose each car to perfection with environmentally-friendly soap donated by Seventh Generation, while also supporting Green Mountain Coffee’s no idling policy by pushing cars through the manual car washing lane.

Dirty-car owners and friends alike will enjoy free ice cream along with a one-of-a-kind, one-day only coffee/ice cream drink to be served only at the car wash. Local band The Growlers will supply the soundtrack to this year’s event with help from volunteer karaoke singers from the crowd. There will also be a raffle of local products and gift certificates, ranging from a Keurig Brewer to a gift certificate to the Moretown Landfill, donated by Waterbury-area businesses to further support Grounds for Health.

“While the car wash is free, everyone is invited to make a donation to Grounds for Health,” says August Burns, Executive Director of Grounds for Health. “These funds support our mission to create sustainable and effective cancer prevention programs in coffee-growing countries.” Anyone making a donation of $25 or more will receive a complimentary Express Detailing by Gigi’s Cleaning. Last year, Green Mountain Coffee volunteers and local residents raised nearly $10,000 for Grounds for Health. This year, the goal is to raise $12,000 for the organization.

“Last year’s event was a success because of the support from individuals and businesses in the community. This year’s generosity has been incredible, and we’re hoping for a great turnout,” adds Burns.
