Creating Synergy in the Value Chain
Our value chain includes global agricultural and manufacturing supply chains. We engage with players throughout our value chain to understand the social and environmental impacts of our business and our industry. By collaborating with diverse organizations, our growing number of suppliers and their communities, and our many customers and consumers, we can make more meaningful and lasting contributions to solving social and environmental challenges.
For coffee, the foundation of our business, there are 7 basic stages in the value chain. Selection of a value chain link to the right will provide the journey of coffee from tree to cup.
Life Cycle Assessment
At the product level, we have conducted life cycle assessment (LCA) studies that consider the environmental impact of coffee and tea packaged and brewed in several ways. The studies considered the entire life cycle of selected products – from raw material acquisition through disposal and the environmental impact categories analyzed were comprehensive. We conducted a LCA of our K-Cup® brewing system and had the study critically reviewed by an expert third party panel. We invite you to view a summary of our LCA results based on fiscal 2011 data of the K-Cup® brewing system for coffee.
